Real Sociedad light up the Anoeta again
The San Sebastián side got back to the winning ways and overcame an Atlético de Madrid who were outdone by the energy and spark of the ‘Txuri urdines’.
Real Sociedad earned an important victory when they overcame Atlético Madrid 2-1 in the game that brought matchday 11 of the Liga BBVA to a close. The three points pull the San Sebastián team out of the relegation zone and leave the Madrid side four points behind the leaders.
The two goals that were scored at the Anoeta in just fifteen minutes reflected the intensity with which both teams went out onto the field. The pressure from the Rojiblancos against the pride of the San Sebastián side resulted in Atlético taking the lead through Mario Mandžukić after a move down the right and a mistake by the home team’s defence. The ‘Txuri urdines’ quickly responded with a great goal from Carlos Vela and showed signs of their desire for the three points with another two chances that could have given them the lead before half time.
Neither team relaxed after the break and the encounter remained electric. Real’s efforts were rewarded in the 83rd minute when an Imanol Agirretxe header found the back of the net. With Atlético overwhelmed by Real Sociedad’s energy, the home side grew in stature and celebrated what was their second victory of the season. The first was against Real Madrid.
